Oxford Plastics Innovation helps Elecnor Hawkeye streamline operations
Leading engineering and construction company Elecnor Hawkeye explains why they recommend Oxford Plastics products for use in New York.
Who is Elecnor Hawkeye?
Elecnor Hawkeye has been an industry leader in engineering and construction solutions for over 20 years. They offer clients a complete turnkey solution. Their services cover a wide range of expertise.
- Electric overhead transmission
- Electric underground transmission
- Electric distribution
- Substation
- Natural gas infrastructure
- Directional drilling
- Renewable power generation
Today, we’ll explain how Elecnor Hawkeye utilized the LowPro 15/10 during projects. Effectively streamlining operational costs and efficiency.
The Challenge
Before adopting the LowPro 15/10, Elecnor Hawkeye used composite concrete plates, steel plates and plywood boards before moving to the Oxford Plastics Safe Cover, to cover trenches and pipework. These solutions came at a high cost. The company had to adopt inefficient working methods to remain compliant and keep the public and workers safe.
Slip testing inspections
Before the LowPro 15/10, frequent tests were conducted to ensure that the trench covers were compliant for insurance purposes. This helped to mitigate any risk of lawsuits. The LowPro 15/10 is moulded with a durable anti-slip surface that requires no upkeep or maintenance other than cleaning.
Compared with the requirement to paint existing steel trench covers with non-slip paint. It wasted valuable time as the plates needed to be painted and left to dry in good weather conditions (a challenge in New York winter). The need to paint the road plates every six months, and touch them up every two weeks, presented the company with a logistical nightmare.
High operational costs
Using heavy steel or concrete plates can incur high operational costs. While the plates themselves can cost upwards of $1000, the company also had to budget for
- Material costs of painting plates with anti-slip paint
- Personnel costs of painting plates with anti-slip paint
- Transportation costs of heavy road plates. (Up to $400,000 for just one truck!)
- Personnel cost of installing road plates
Innovation from Oxford Plastics
Over the last 20 years, Elecnor Hawkeye transitioned through multiple types of trench cover, from concrete composite plates to the SafeCover, eventually adopting the LowPro 15/10.
Elecnor Hawkeye became an early adopter of our technology, firstly with our SafeCover, first developed in 1998, which offered a durable replacement for plywood boards. Then with the LowPro 15/10, our ADA-compliant, anti-slip and lightweight alternative to steel plates.
This shows the company's journey towards a solution that was not only more time efficient but helped the company make savings too. Choosing the LowPro 15/10 helped Elecnor Hawkeye to adhere to industry compliance by using a product that helped them to comply with changing regulations without falling behind their competitors.
